Material Types - Understanding Your Options

Sugarcane (bagasse) containers are made from sugar cane pulp, a by-product of sugar production. They are compostable in commercial composting facilities, microwave-safe, and oil and water-resistant - the most popular eco alternative for hot food service. PLA (polylactic acid) cups and cold containers are made from plant starch and are compostable in certified commercial facilities. Bamboo cutlery and plates are renewable, lightweight, and fully biodegradable. FSC-certified paper packaging uses responsibly sourced wood fibre. Biodegradable bin liners use plant-based polymers that break down under landfill conditions.

Compostable vs Biodegradable - What's the Difference?

Compostable products break down within 90 days in commercial compost conditions and are certified to AS 4736 (industrial) or AS 5810 (home compost) standards. Biodegradable simply means the product will eventually break down - with no defined timeframe or certification required.
