Wholesale GST Pricing Explained
DPack is a Melbourne wholesale supplier, and our prices follow the trade convention of showing ex GST (GST-exclusive) by default. This guide explains how the 10% Goods and Services Tax works on our prices and your wholesale orders, how to switch between ex GST and inc GST views, and how to claim your GST credits. It is general information for Australian business buyers, not tax advice.
Are DPack's prices shown with or without GST?
By default every price on dpack.com.au is shown ex GST (before the 10% GST is added). This is the standard convention for wholesale and trade buyers, who claim the GST back and so compare suppliers on the net, GST-exclusive cost. You can switch the whole site to show inc GST (GST-inclusive) prices at any time using the toggle in the header.
How do I switch between ex GST and inc GST prices?
Use the ex GST / inc GST toggle in the site header. Your choice is remembered as you browse, so all product, collection and cart prices update to match your preference. Switch to inc GST if you would rather see the final amount payable up front.
Do I pay GST on wholesale orders in Australia?
Yes. GST of 10% applies to most goods sold in Australia whether you buy them wholesale or retail. Buying wholesale changes the price and pack size, not whether GST applies. DPack is registered for GST, so 10% is added to taxable items and shown as a separate line in your cart and on your tax invoice.
Why do wholesale suppliers quote prices ex GST?
Trade buyers who are registered for GST claim that GST back from the ATO, so the GST-exclusive figure is their true cost. Quoting ex GST lets businesses compare one supplier against another on a like-for-like net basis. That is why DPack, like other Australian wholesalers, displays ex GST by default while still giving you the inc GST view on demand.
Can I claim the GST back on my purchase?
If your business is registered for GST, you can generally claim the GST paid on business purchases as a GST credit (input tax credit) on your Business Activity Statement. You need a valid tax invoice, which DPack supplies with every order. This is general information only and not tax advice, so check your specific situation with your accountant or the ATO.
Does DPack provide a tax invoice?
Yes. Your order confirmation is a valid tax invoice. It itemises the GST component of your order and shows our ABN (74 855 440 553), so you have everything you need to claim your GST credits.
Is the $150 free Melbourne delivery threshold ex GST or inc GST?
Free Melbourne metro delivery applies to orders of $150 ex GST or more. In other words, your cart needs to reach $150 before GST is added to qualify for free local delivery. Australia-wide shipping is also available.
How is GST calculated at checkout?
Whichever way you view prices while browsing, GST is calculated at checkout and shown as its own line. The GST-inclusive total is always the amount you pay. Viewing prices ex GST or inc GST changes the display only, never the final tax owed.
Are all products subject to GST?
Most disposable, packaging, cleaning, kitchen and stationery products are taxable, so GST applies. A small number of goods are GST-free under Australian law, and where that is the case no GST is added. Your tax invoice always shows exactly how much GST, if any, was charged on each order.
